Product: Decathlon 2-Person Tent – MH 100

The Decathlon 2-Person Tent – MH 100 is designed for the beginner camper looking for a reliable, easy-to-assemble shelter. This tent features a dome structure, fibreglass poles, and a double skin for added insulation and protection. The dome structure allows you to easily move it once it has been assembled.

Decathlon 2-Person Tent – MH 100 comes with:

  • 1 bedroom
  • 1 waterproof flysheet
  • 2 poles
  • 7 tent pegs
  • 4 guy ropes

The tent is available in a dark petrol blue colour, which blends nicely with natural surroundings. The floor capacity is about 130 x 210 cm, good for anyone below 6’4 with room to store packs. Weighing in at 2.4 kg (5.3 lbs), it’s on the larger side (lengthwise) but easy to roll up and transport.

My Experience…

During my two-week trip, the MH 100 proved to be a valuable piece of gear. The setup was straightforward and only took about five minutes. I like how we were able to move it once assembled as it was quite sturdy.

I felt it had a lot of room for a 2-person tent, I slept in it alone and also with my partner. We had more than enough space for our packs and other gear. We were both able to sit up and spread out within the tent, for reference I’m 5’4, 120lbs and my partner is 6’0, 160lbs.

The hooks at the top of the tent were strong as well, we were able to hang a lantern and a fan at the same time with no issues. The double zippers were good quality and easily used, nothing stuck on the tent fabric or jammed in the zipper.

One of the standout features was its waterproof capability. We experienced a rain shower for three days and nights, and the MH 100 held up excellently, with no leaks or dampness inside. The tent’s double skin and waterproof seams worked perfectly to keep us dry.

However, the tent did have a few minor drawbacks. It was a bit large for backpacking initially but I ended up folding it quite small and sticking the poles on the outside of my bag which worked out fine on a 15km hike into the mountains.

Additionally, the ventilation could be improved as condensation built up slightly by the morning. I’m assuming that we had some wind during the night which pushed the outer layer against the inner layer allowing it to stick.

Pros

  • Easy to set up and pack away
  • Excellent waterproof performance
  • Affordable price point

Cons

  • On the heavier side
  • Ventilation could be better

Practical Tips

To make the most of the MH 100, consider using a footprint or groundsheet for added protection against rough terrain, I like to use a small layer of Reflectix under my sleeping bag. Also, leave the door slightly open or leave the outer layer unzipped at night to improve airflow and reduce condensation build-up, I found this helped on on the hotter nights.

Final Thoughts: Decathlon 2-Person Tent – MH 100

Overall, the Decathlon 2-Person Tent – MH 100 is a reliable and affordable option for any camper and hiker. Its easy setup, sleek design, and excellent waterproof performance make it a great choice for weekend trips and short camping adventures. Despite minor issues with space and ventilation, its strengths far outweigh the drawbacks.

The Decathlon 2-Person Tent – MH 100 goes for about $50 before tax, honestly, could not go wrong buying this for your first or fiftieth camping trip out.
