About Her

Hello! I’m Mel

I’m a solo female traveller, outdoor enthusiast and aspiring mountaineer. I grew up playing amateur golf, practicing yoga, and competitively skiing. After university, I moved out west and fell in love with the Pacific North West. I still ski and practice yoga, but I traded my golf clubs for a paddle-board and hiking boots and never looked back!

I love to hike, explore, paddle-board, and take lots of road trips. I obsessively read the latest travel blogs and I hope to add to the collective community with my own experiences.

I began my journey with ZERO outdoor experience, and to say the least I was terrified of injuring myself, getting lost, and worst-case encountering a wild animal unprepared. While I did thorough research before each venture to mitigate any potential dangers, I still felt a bit uneasy and unconfident. Looking back now I can see my mistakes and laugh at my fails – this includes falling down many slopes, hitting trees, and consistently getting lost. It was after one bad hike where I failed to summit due to weather conditions, and my inability to navigate, that I felt defeated and overwhelmed. This was my turning point….and the beginning of Go Her Own Way.

I started Go Her Own Way as a way to document my outdoor adventures and share some of the skills that I learned in order to prevent others from making the same mistakes. I found a lot of healing in being outside, pushing myself to explore and connecting with nature. I hope everyone can experience love and connectedness whilst exploring, whether it be at your local park or nearest mountain.

This blog is for anyone who wants to learn more about the outdoors or for people who have no experience in nature. Whether you’re looking to become an outdoor enthusiast yourself or simply want to know more about what life is like outside of your city bubble, this is the place for you.

Happy Exploring! 🙂
