Mount Strachan
Elevation: 1459m/4787ft
Date: May 22, 2024
Range: North Vancouver Mountains
After Hollyburn + Hillstrom in the mountain, I decided to check Mount Strachan off my list in the afternoon. Set off from the Cypress parking lot around 3:30 pm after work and lunch.
Took the path up the Runway slope and diverted right onto the hiking trail.
The trail started like a nice walk in the woods and was well-marked. Once you hit the river, you must cross on a single loose log. At this point, I was getting skeptical about the trail.
The snow started quickly after the river crossing and kept losing the trail. The markers soon disappeared and I was completely dependent on the AllTrails map.
This hike was meant to be an easy trail and it was getting tough to stay on the trail. As the trail got closer to the Collins slope I decided to cross the river again to get back on track.
Once on the slope, I was able to make my way up Collins to T-33. Lots of snow mid-mountain and upwards, I probably could’ve skinned up the hill if I had my skis.
I was able to easily climb past the top chairlift further behind and made it to the high point of the Mount Strachan.
Then I kept going to the main Mount Strachan peak, a bit of a grind to get up in the deep snow but it was a good trek.
Headed my way back down after spending some time enjoying the awesome views.
